Combined Medication For Alzheimer's Disease
The Alzheimer's is a disease that can influence your every day life. If you are the patient or you are the care-giver, as the disease progresses, you will have more and more problems with taking care of the patient. The medications that we have on the market today do not cure the disease. Research is being done on how to prevent the disease and how to see the genetic predispositions for the disease, but the results are still far away from what we could use. Also, in most countries it is still forbidden, to play around with the fetus's genetic material, to change the predispositions, even if they are disease predispositions.
So what the medication for the health problems connected to the Alzheimer's will do is to slow down the process of deterioration of the brain. It means that the patient will be able to perform his or her every day activities as the disease progresses, and will be able to feed himself, go to the toilet and avoid incontinence. There are five medications FDA approved medications in the United States of America. Four of them are used to treat the early stages of Alzheimer's; the fifth one is meant to be used in the middle stages of the disease.
The four that are used for the treatment of mild and moderate Alzheimer's are cholinesterase inhibitors. They work for a limited time and prevent the symptoms to get worse. They can also control some of the usual behavioral symptoms that the patients experience. They are Razadyne, Exelon, Aricept and Cognex. It is not exactly known, how these medications work on the development of the health problems connected to Alzheimer's.
Some indicators show that they prevent the breakdown of acetylcholine, a chemical that is important in the brain for memory and thinking processes. So these processes do not deteriorate so fast, if you use the medication. These drugs work very similar, so combinations of them are not more or less effective, some patients may respond better to one drug and some may respond better to another. The combinations of medication for Alzheimer's disease can be this medication with other, natural or alternative medication. Some of the alternatives that are used to stop or slow down some of the aging health problems can and should be used for treating the Alzheimer's. One of them is green and/or black tea. The substances in them have shown an influence on the spread of the brain damage. Another combination of medication for Alzheimer's disease is the described drugs with antioxidants like the vitamins C and vitamins E or Ginko bilboa. Ginko bilboa is an extract from the leaves of the ginko bilboa tree. Clinical trials are conducted to discover how and if the Ginko bilboa extracts can help delay the cognitive decline in Alzheimer's patients.
